"I was raised by a teacher... And from the time I went to kindergarten through my senior year in high school, I went to public schools. I wouldn't trade that education & experience for anything." - Matt Damon, SOS March, 2011

It’s time to support the great students, programs and educators that exist in our public education system!

While they are busy in the classroom, it’s time we stand up and support them by getting involved in the conversation.

Teachers, parents, students, elected officials and community leaders should all be a part of education reform. All of us are accountable for Oklahoma’s public schools. Teachers must work to reach and motivate every student. Families need to instill values of respect and responsibility. Elected officials need to give our students and teachers the resources they need. You can help.

Join the conversation. Start by signing the pledge and thanking a teacher to show your support for public education!

Teacher Thank You Notes

Mr. Alan Zisman, Biology & high school principal, Snyder

I got married in June started back to high school in August and found out I was expecting in October during the days when pregnant students married or not weren't allowed to go to school. Through a promise made to Mr. Zisman my principal and biology teacher I completed high school after the birth of my first child. Then 11 years later I received my first teaching job as a direct result of Mr. Zisman's letter of recommendation. Mr. Zisman has left this life, but he will never be forgotten as long as I breathe. His belief in me has encouraged me through 28 wonderful years in the teaching profession.

- Charlene Bower, Snyder, Ok
Mrs. Roberts, Elementary Music, Healdton Elementary School

Thank you for teaching music in our tiny town. I dearly loved all of my music teachers, but it began with you. You planted the seeds. I still remember some of the songs you taught us, even though I only had you my first few years in elementary school. Had you not been there I might not be a music teacher today. Thank you!

- Melissa Kimberlin-Coates, Byars
Mr. Almjeld, 6th grade, Music, Taylor Junior High School

You have been an inspiration to me ever since I was in your music class in the sixth-grade. I remember wanting to be a teacher just like you someday. You touched my life in so many ways, and I want to thank you. I love music and can pinpoint that love to your class. You instilled that passion for music in your students because of your own passion for this art. As a teacher who has taught for several years now, I can appreciate your passion for teaching also. You touched my life in many ways, and I thank you.
