It’s time to stand up Oklahoma!

"I was raised by a teacher... And from the time I went to kindergarten through my senior year in high school, I went to public schools. I wouldn't trade that education & experience for anything." - Matt Damon, SOS March, 2011It’s time to support the great students, programs and educators that exist in our public education system!

While they are busy in the classroom, it’s time we stand up and support them by getting involved in the conversation.

Teachers, parents, students, elected officials and community leaders should all be a part of education reform. All of us are accountable for Oklahoma’s public schools. Teachers must work to reach and motivate every student. Families need to instill values of respect and responsibility. Elected officials need to give our students and teachers the resources they need. You can help.

Teacher Thank You Notes

Mrs. Brewer, 8th Grade English, Monroe Middle School

You may not remember me but, I was in your 8th grade English class at Monroe Middle School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I want to thank you for being so encouraging and helpful to me during that year. I remember when I had to leave the school, you gave me a book called, "To Kill a Mockingbird." I have kept that book for all of these years and still pull it out from time to time to read the personal inscription that you wrote to me. If I could see you today, I would thank you for the sacrifices that you gave to work in a low-income school and for investment that you made in my life. I would also let you know that I am a teacher and I hope that I can positively influence at least one life, like you did for me. Thank you Mrs. Brewer!!!

- Angelia Salamat, Tulsa
Mrs. Starr, 2nd grade, Northside Elementary

You inspired me to become a teacher! Thank you so much for being my role model & mentor!

- Elsie Morris, Westville
Mrs. Cummings, Kindergarten and 1st grade, Westville Elementary

Thank you for encouraging me to step outside of my comfort zone and become a leader, even though I was terrified. The values that I learned from you as a kindergartner and first grader are still as important today as they were then. I will strive to become as great of a teacher, motivator, and example for my students as you were for me. Thank you!

- Tandra Morris, Tahlequah, OK
